Demand driven
The best schedules are built taking into account changes in demand. This includes long- term cycles such as seasonal shifts in demand as well as weekly changes in staffing or equipment availability. Even companies that have fixed demand deal with workforce to workload mismatches due to vacation, holidays, and sick call-outs. Blue Roster software allows you to build the schedule to match the workforce to the workload based on demand. The difference between the workload and the workforce are then corrected using tools such as overtime. Where the workforce is above the workload, hours are identified and can be applied to discretionary work of additional areas such as training.

Rule based
The schedule flexes the workforce up and down to meet demand based on a clearly defined state of rules. Blue Roster software is built with a highly customizable rules engine, allowing almost every conceivable rule to be included in the software decision-making process. Rules can include break times and length, seniority taken into account for overtime opportunities, or manadatory completion of training.

Increased predictability
Employees are more willing to work a holiday if they know ahead and can plan around it. Blue Roster allows employees the maximum time horizon for visibility into their schedule. The software allows employees to see their scheduled hours, who their direct supervisor will be, and the task they will be doing as soon as the organization completes the workforce to workload matching process. Employees are alerted to unplanned changes as far in advance as possible.

Increased flexibility
One of the most common employee desires is having a schedule that is flexible to maintain a healthy work-life balance. The Shift Swap function allows for seamless trading of shifts, provided the skill sets and cost rules are not breached. Let's say your child will be performing at school during your regular shift...imagine the ability to request a trade so you can be present for the performance and still get a full week of hours because you were able to swap shifts. The Blue Roster tool is designed to allow employees to request changes and receive feedback quickly. The software makes certain that the authorized trades do not lead to increased labor cost for the organization, and also ensures that the appropriate skills are available to meet workload requirements.

Tactical and strategic decision making
Blue Roster allows supervisors and schedulers to optimally assign employees to work, for both routine and last minute scheduling processes. Most organizations schedule employees in a regular weekly planning process that looks out one to two weeks. The Blue Roster tool identifies the optimum way to staff the future workload, including coverage for planned absenteeism such as vacation. Similarly, the scheduling tool is used to support supervisors in dealing with last-minute changes to both workload and workforce. If the production mix changes or a critical employee calls in sick, the tool will provide first line supervision with a recommended path to deal with the issue. If warranted, the system will push out an overtime request to employees and deal with their responses as the situation dictates.

Integrated
communication
channel
The Blue Roster tool will be a critical link in each employee’s day. This is where they can see their current and future schedule and request changes as needed. The integrated notes function allows employees to ask questions and get immediate feedback from supervisors and schedulers about work in the upcoming days.
